New Jersey parks to enjoy with your canine companion

A young woman and her dog

If you want to give the furry members of your family an open space where they could play in New Jersey, then take them out to these four awesome dog parks found here:

Asbury Park 8th Avenue Dog Beach
Boardwalk at First Avenue, Asbury

Asbury Park is home to pet-friendly beaches where your pooch can enjoy the sun, sand, and water. A section of it – 8th Avenue Dog Beach – has been designated as the area where dogs can go off-leash to play fetch or swim with you and other dog-friendly beach-goers. However, make sure to observe the schedules when they’re allowed on the beach. You can bring them with you from mid-September to mid-May. Dogs are still permitted on the beach in summer but only before 8:30 AM or after 6:00 PM.

The adjacent Asbury Park Boardwalk also offers a wealth of activities and amenities for you and your doggo. The Wonder Bar on 5th & Ocean Avenues, for example, has a Yappy Hour deck. It’s a separate fenced-in area where both doggo and hooman owner can play and have fun together.

Working Dog Winery
610 Perrineville Road, Hightstown

For a unique bonding experience between you and your canine fur-baby, take them with you to Working Dog Winery. It’s a pet-friendly vineyard and wine tasting room located along the eastern part of Mercer County.

A word of advice: Working Dog Winery is open to visitors from Fridays to Sundays. Make sure to read through their booking and visiting policies and check out upcoming live music and food truck events here

Wildwood Dog Park & Beach
Glenwood Avenue and the beach, Wildwood

Wildwood is another New Jersey city with a dog-friendly beach area. Formerly known as the Poplar Avenue Beach, Wildwood Dog Park and Beach is a newly redesigned park and beach where fur parents can walk along sandy dunes, bask in the sun, and play in the water with their dogs.

Although pets are required to be leashed on the beach itself, your dog can run free in the fenced-in dog park nearby. But before your visit, make sure to read through the park and beach rules here.

Freedom Barks Dog Park
98 Old Marlton Pike, Medford

Known as one of the best dog parks in the tri-state area, Freedom Barks Dog Park is a 26-acre leash-free area located within Medford’s Freedom Park. This finely maintained dog play area has rivers, grassy fields, and an agility course with state-of-the-art equipment. The park also has shaded benches, a children’s playground nearby, and various events and activities for the rest of the family to enjoy.

The Medford Township is also looking forward to the opening of two new fenced-in dog runs in Freedom Barks. One dog run area is limited to dogs under 25 pounds with ample 4-foot fencing. The other is open to dogs of all sizes, complete with 6-foot fencing. Both areas are 100 yards long, each with its own agility courses, seating areas, and dog waste containers.

Remember to read through Medford Township’s General Guidelines here before visiting.
