  1. Look at the seasonal blooms at any of Central New Jersey’s botanical gardens

    Spring heralds the arrival of bluebells, violets, geraniums, yellow trout lilies, and other vivid blooms. View these gorgeous spring ephemerals at the many flower and butterfly gardens in Central New Jersey. Explore the rose gardens, greenhouses, and manicured paths at Deep Cut Gardens & Demonstration Gardens, a 54-acre outdoor attraction featuring 55 rose varieties and other native plants throughout the seasons.

    Or visit The Cross Estate Gardens, a 20th century Arts and Crafts-style estate spanning 300 acres. The estate features a wisteria-covered pergola, five-story water tower with a wooden windmill, mountain laurel allee, and several gardens and flowerbeds populated by Silver Maple, Chinese Sequoia, ferns, rhododendrons, and primroses.

    There’s also the New Jersey Botanical Garden at Ringwood State Park, which is home to several beautifully landscaped gardens with colorful lilacs, azaleas, peonies, rhododendrons, and red cardinal flowers depending on the season.

  2. Pick fruit at a local farm or orchard

    Go on a tour of Gorgeous Goat Creamery, where you can learn to milk the goats and make cheese or take them on a hike along the trails and hardwood forests on this scenic 17-acre dairy farm. They sell dairy products and handmade soap at local farmers markets. Visit the Hidden Spring Lavender & Alpaca Farm, a 25-acre farm with gorgeous lavender fields; a gift shop selling lavender buds, bouquets, and essential oil; and an alpaca farm where guests can walk the alpacas living on the property.

    Terhune Orchards is a family-owned and operated farm spanning 250 acres in Central New Jersey. The vast property features a farm store, vineyard, winery, and farmland where 46 crops are grown, including apples, berries, zucchini, and pumpkin. The farm hosts wine tasting events, farm festivals, hiking tours, and fruit picking activities each year.

  3. Hit the beach

    You don’t have to wait for summer to visit the beach and water parks in Central New Jersey – go for a stroll along Point Pleasant Beach, which features a pristine beach, mile-long boardwalk, mini golf course, Jenkinson’s Aquarium, and Point Pavilion Antiques; Barnegat Lighthouse State Park, which is home to the historic Barnegat Lighthouse along with scenic trails and a quiet stretch of sand; and Asbury Park Splash Park, which has a vibrant boardwalk and mini golf course.

  4. Hit the trails

    Go hiking, biking, and bird watching at the many parks and trails in Central New Jersey. Colonial Park is a vast 685-acre park with a children’s playground, mini golf course, picnic areas, and short hiking trails that are less than a mile long.

    Cheesequake State Park features marked trails and boardwalks that meander through open fields, hardwood forests, saltwater marshes, and lakes. Hacklebarney State Park features paved hiking trails, stairs, and bridges as well as picnic benches and a playground.
