Why Bridgewater is one of the best places to live in New Jersey

Stately colonials perched on the ridges of the Watchung Mountains, great schools, a sleek shopping mall – Bridgewater is where scenic beauty meets quality of life. The township has been named one of the best places to live in New Jersey, as well as the “The Top Booming Suburb” in the Garden State.

If you’re thinking of moving, consider the perks of living in Bridgewater:

    1. Excellent schools

Raising kids? Their education is in good hands. The Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District is comprised of K-3 primary schools, intermediate schools for Grades 4 and 5, a middle school for Grades 6 to 8, and the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional High School. All schools, except for one primary school, are located in the township itself.

The high school is situated on a 120-acre campus. It was named a New Jersey Star School in 1998 and a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2000. Bridgewater-Raritan students consistently outperform the state average on the SAT reasoning test, and a high percentage of them go on to attend college.

    2. Outdoor activities

If you love the outdoors, you’ll find plenty to do in Bridgewater. You can go biking, fishing, hiking, and bird watching at Duke Island Park, a 343-acre park with a glimmering canal running alongside it.

You can also play ball at any of the sports fields in North Branch Park, where you’ll find picnic tables and a playground. There are vast, open spaces by the Raritan River, where you can roll out a blanket and admire the water. Model plane enthusiasts gather here to show off their gear, and this is where the town’s Fourth of July fireworks take place each year.

    3. Real estate

From starter homes to sprawling estates, the township has it all. There’s also a good mix of historic homes and new constructions. Colonial and Ranch are the prevalent architectural styles, while some of the newly minted housing units sport a Contemporary look.

The housing stock consists of single-family homes, townhomes, and condos. Some of the older single-family homes can be found in the northern section of town, while more than a dozen townhomes and condo apartments are situated in the southwestern part of Bridgewater.

    4. Community events

Community events like the Eco-Blast Fair and the Somerset County 4-H Fair provide not just entertainment but opportunities to bring people together and make them feel a like they’re part of one big family. The former showcases environmental displays and kid-friendly craft projects, while the latter features art and science exhibits by 4-H youth members.

Holiday celebrations like the Fourth of July fireworks display and Valentine’s Day Psychic Fair and Food Bank Collection put residents in a festive mood.

    5. Good governance

The local government and police force are highly responsive, and the whole town benefits from efficient sewage and waste disposal. The town has also taken measures to preserve trees.

The town mayor holds regular meetings where residents who are unable to schedule appointments can drop by and freely voice their concerns. This allows for inclusivity and open communication.

    6. Shopping

Bridgewater Commons is a premier shopping destination that boasts retailers like Victoria’s Secret, Banana Republic, Hollister Co., and Bloomingdale’s. Check out what’s new and trendy or dine in any of the restaurants that serve fresh seafood, pizza, and sushi. Some of your dining options include McCormick & Schmick’s, Sarku Japan Sushi Bar, and Baja.B.Que.
