St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in grand style in Somerville. Each year, about 25,000-30,000 people join the merry parade, which is accompanied by noted local pipe bands. As with any St. Paddy’s celebration, a pub crawl is an absolute must. Luckily, the community has some of the best hangouts in the state, including hometown favorites such as Mannion’s Irish Pub and Verve Bistro Bar and Lounge.
Somerset Patriots FanFest

Join Somerset in kicking off the baseball season at the Patriots FanFest. At this annual event, fans of the local team get a chance to meet all the players, as well as the team’s legendary manager emeritus, Sparky Lyle. The event is absolutely free and is a perfect family weekend activity. While you’re at it, be sure to book tickets for the opening game on April 27.

Foodies, mark your calendars! In May, the county hosts one of the biggest gourmet tasting events in the state: Taste of Somerset. At this annual gathering, attendees can sample the finest appetizers, entrees, desserts, and beverages prepared by over 50 chefs from all over the region. Even better, proceeds from the all-you-can-eat event will go to the PeopleCare Center for Nonprofits.
Rose Day Festival

You know it’s summer in Somerset when the roses start blooming. To celebrate the change of season, the county hosts the annual Rose Day Festival at Colonial Park where people can stroll through the garden, enjoy great music, buy artwork from local artisans, and indulge in delicious food. Of course, the celebration won’t be complete if you can’t buy beautiful rose plants for your home. Don’t forget to bring blankets and chairs to sit in the grassy area of the garden!
Central Jersey Jazz Fest

If you’re a big fan of jazz music, make sure to visit the Central Jersey Jazz Fest in September. The event will feature renowned jazz artists from around the country, including established performers and promising acts. In line with the festival, many restaurants in the area will offer special menus and provide outdoor seating. Expect plenty of food trucks and wine gardens to also crop up during the event.

At the Bedminster Charities Fall Fest, you can have a good time while also doing good. There are many fun activities to enjoy during this family-friendly occasion, including live music, bounce houses, face painting, hay rides, and more. For the adults, there’s also a classic car show where rare vintage cars will be on display. Proceeds go to seven Bedminster-based organizations.
